EIGHT REASONS TO INVEST IN FUEL MANAGEMENT FOR YOUR COMPANY

With 12 years of experience in the transport sector, Control IMS has identified the main actions of fraud and theft of fuel, raw materials, and even food such as milk. For example, Control IMS accompanied a milk processing company in Peru that transported milk from the farms to the pasteurizing plant. The problem was that the milk reported as received at the farms was always lower than the one received at the plant, and if that happened to milk, imagine what could happen to fuel. For this reason, we present the following modalities of fraud and theft so that you can avoid falling into them.

1. Extract fuel from the transport tank and compensate it with water:

Contamination of fuel during the transportation is a common practice that allows the delivery of the agreed quantities but with the contaminated product. This practice affects the fuel purchase transactions but creates an even higher risk if the vehicles are refueled with contaminated fuel.

2. Extract fuel from the company's stationary tank to pass it to small containers:

This theft method from the tank occurs at night or on weekends when the operation is unattended and affects all types of operations (small, medium, or large).

3. Extract fuel from the company's stationary tank thru irregular fuel deliveries:

Fake fuel delivery documents support this modality to allow irregularly refueling.

4. Unauthorized refueling from the dispenser nozzle:

Fuel is delivered to non-company vehicles or loaded into small containers without authorization. Small amounts seem unnoticeable daily, but they turn into significant losses in the long term.

5. Alter the calibration of fuel meters to manage inventories irregularly:

The fuel delivered per transaction can be less or more than the quantity requested. The remaining fuel in the tanks is extracted to adjust the inventory.

6. Fictitious deliveries:

Fraud occurs when fictitious refueling is registered to company vehicles. For example, instead of 20 gallons, the record book shows a refuel of 25 gallons; or the record book shows refuels that were not completed. In some opportunities, the theft reaches such high amounts of fuel that the mobile tanker does not even unload because the stationary tanks are still full.

7. Extract fuel from the company's vehicle tank to containers:

This occurs when the vehicle is on the road, and fuel is extracted with hoses from the tank.

8. Extract fuel from the vehicle while driving:

Fuel in heavy vehicles passes from the tank to the combustion chamber, and what has not been used returns to the tank to cool off. Bypass keys are installed on the fuel return line, so instead of going back to the tank to cool off, the fuel is going to a container inside the vehicle.

In remote operations such as mining, farming, or construction, motor oil and hydraulic oil are also subject to theft and fraud. For this reason, we invite you to get to know CONTROL IMS products and services to help you prevent fraud and theft from affecting your company.
